coding at #beproudbedale

In the Dale Street makerspace, we embed many different coding choices for students to build exposure in ways they are most comfortable. Each makerspace class has coding opportunities with many tech-infused options such as Makey-Makeys, iPads with apps (ie: Scratch Jr, The Foos, Blockly, etc), Dash & Dot robots, Probots, Sphero, etc... We also offer low-tech coding options such as cup stacking, drawing, and books about coding galore!

One article that resonated with me was from the New York Times "Teaching Kids Coding, but the Book" as it speaks to the power of using books to build excitement about coding.

Another favorite article, "Hey Computer Scientists, Stop Hating on the Humanities", speaks to the importance of thinking through ethical situations while coding to broaden the potential and impact.

The 2017-18 school year holds much promise for coding in the #beproudbedale makerspace! We are excited to embrace the power of coding while appreciating the lens of humanities and literature as well!

Hello World!

<Hello World!/>,
This Summer, a few leaders from each Medfield school have teamed up to bring more emphasis and cohesiveness to our students' learning experiences in Computer Science.  While we all have been apart of the Hour of Code movement initiated by Code.org, we have recognized that it is only the beginning. The world needs students who will be ready for whatever the future holds and more... and learning about computer science and programming gives students a superpower that can help them tackle anything!

Our Superpower SUMMER R & D team is working to navigate a common path starting in Kindergarten that will threads all of the way through High School.
Please follow our collaborative blog as we move forward 100 pixels on a forever loop .....
